Lord stayed back here for the welfare of the people as per Valmiki's request.

King on seeing his talent and rewared him a small kingdom and named him as a king. Neelan who wished to marry Kumudavalli. When on one such occasion, Lord himself disguised as marriage party when Neelan robbed Him. Neelan tried to remove the ornament which was on Lord's feet but he couldn't. He tried in vain. Finally Lord shown His original figure to Neelan on seeing God he requested the Lord to pardon him. From then on Neelan was called as Thirumangai Azhwar who wrote poetic stanzas about Lord Vishnu and visited many shrines.

Poetic Stanzas (Naalayira Divya Prabandam) praising Lord :
When Thirumangai Azhwar came to Thiruneermalai, the temple was surrounded by water, he was said to have waited for 6 months for water to recede to have a darshan. He named the God as Neervannan. (There is another saying that Valmiki named the God) He sung 19 Pasurams about Lord.
Another Azhwar Boothathazhwar who sung 1 pasuram totalling 20 pasurams has been sung about the Lord at Thiruneermalai.
Out of 4,000 Naalayira Divya Prabandas Thirumangai Azhwar composed and sung totally 1253 Pasurams on Vishnu in various temples.
From 948 to 2031 = 1084, 2032 to 2051 = 20, 2052 to 2081 = 30, 2672 = 1, 2673 to 2712 = 40, 2713 to 2790 = 78 totally 1253

Thirumangai Azhwar composed and sung 19 Pasurams (Poem - Stanzas) about Lord at Thiruneermalai Temple
Boothathazhwar composed and sung 1 Pasuram (Poem - Stanza) about Lord at Thiruneermalai Temple
Thiruneermalai Lord gave four ways of darshans to Thirumangai Azhwar namely Nindran (Standing posture), Nadanthan (Walking Posture), Irundan (Sitting Posture), Kidanthan (Reclining Posture).
Once Birgu Maharishi and Sage Markandeya after worshipping Lord Sri Ranganatha at Sri Rangam, on their way back they sat on penance at Thiruneermalai. God appeared before them and as per their request Lord permanently stayed here to bless the devotees.
Foot Hill :
The holy tank called Ksheera Pushkarini. It comprises four theerthas namely Siddha, Swarna, Karunya and Ksheera.
Vaiganasa Agama Sastras practiced.
Temple consists of two parts one in the foot hill and another one on the top hill. The main Tower is magnificent. The complex in the foot hill comprises seperate shrine for Neervannan (in standing posture). The shrine for Neervannan is wonderful and having beautiful structure.
Thirumangai Azhwar on looking Neervannan and his beauty emotionally sung Pasurams. There is Urchava murti, Valmiki, Kannan, Chakrathazhwar statues are there inside the Karpagraha. 12 Azhwars are seated in front of the Lord Neervannan. Azhakiya Manavala the processional deity of Lord Ranganatha (top hill) is kept here.
Outer prahara of the inner complex direct opposite to the entrance of the Neervannan Shrine is a small mandapa in which Lord Hanuman statue facing Neervanan is there.
Opposite to the main Tower (Gopuram) there is a mandapa. On the top of Mandapa we can see Dasavatar depicting the Lord. Inside the Mandapa on the right hand side seperate shrine consisting of Sri Kalyana Rama, Sri Sita, Lakshmana, Bharathan, Shatrugan and on the left side seperate shrine for Goddesses Animamalar Mangai Thayar. She was referred by Thirmangai Azhwar in his first stanza about Thiruneermalai. Every year hundreds of marriages were performed here in this Mandapa because Sri Rama stands in a wedding a style blessing couples to begin a fruitful life.
Here we can find inscriptions behind Sri Rama shrine over the walls.
Goddesses Animamamalar Mangai Thayar. Vimana of the Goddess front side, back side.
On going around the shrine we can see 'Sorgha Vasal' meaning Celestial Gateway to Heaven.
On the backside of it a seperate shrine for Sri Andal is situated. Andal shrine Vimana.
Coming out from this shrine we can see a beautiful vimana of Lord Neervannan. We can clinch the wonderful view of Lord Ranganatha on the top hill from here.
Thiruneermalai one among 108 Divya Desams is also called Thoyathri. Thoya meant water, Athri meant hill. God himself is under Thoyaathri Vimana.
The temple as per inscriptions found on the walls says that temple has been built during 8th century by Pallavas and renovations taken by Chozhas during 9th Century and Vijayanagar Empires during 14th and 15th Centuries.
Large assets were still in the possession of Temple.
Everywhere Flagpost are situated opposite to the temple entrance or opposite to the tower. But here it is situated few metres away from main tower and by the side of Moolava Murti Lord Neervannan. This said to be given importance to Sri Rama on whose sannidhi is opposite to the tower and flag post.
Thirumangai Azhwar's Pasurams written down on the wall.
Top Hill :
Steps numbering exactly 200. On climbing up small shrine for Hanuman is there. It is in utter dark. Could not be visible.

The first among Thirumangai Azhwar's poetic stanzas about Thiruneermalai is
"Andraayarkulak kodiyodu Animaamalarmankaiyodu anbalavi Avunarkku
Yenthaanum yirakkamilaathavanukku uraiyumidamaavathu yirumpozhilsoozh
Nandraaya punalnaraiyur tiruvaali kudanthai thadam thigazh koval nagar
Nindraan Irunthaan Kidanthaan Nadantharkkidam maamalaiyavathu Neermalaiye"
In the Thirumangai Azhwar's view point he says in the above poem is that (1) Nindraan (Standing) : On visiting Neervannan here (at Thiruneermalai) is equal to visiting Thirunaraiyoor temple also called as Nachiar Temple, in Kumbakonam, Thanjavur District, Tamilnadu, (2) Irunthaan (Sitting) On visiting Narasimha here (at Thiruneermalai) is equal to visiting Thiruvaali Thirunagari Narasimha Temple near Sirkazhi, Nagapattinam District, Tamilnadu, (3) Kidanthaan (reclining) : On visiting Lord Ranganatha here (at Thiruneermalai) is equal to visiting Aarai Amuthai, Sarangapani, Temple, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur District, Tamilnadu, (4) Nadanthaan (Walking) : On visiting Ulagalantha Perumal here (at Thiruneermalai) is equal to visiting Thirukkovilur Ulaganathan in Thiruvikrama Kolam, Villupuram District, Tamilnadu.
So visiting this Great hill Thiruneermalai attains the results of visiting 4 other shrines as per Thirumangai Azhwar.
There is Kalki Mandapa, It is mentioned here that the Mandapa donated by Kalki Sadasivam (Kalki is a very old Tamil magazine in Tamilnadu) couples.
We can see magnificent view of Down hill and Thiruneermalai surroundings from Kalki Mandapa.

The inscriptions found were of Chozha and Vijaya Nagar empires belongs to 14th and 17th Centuries.
From 250 A.D. to 900 A.D. i.e., upto 9th century Kanchipuram was ruled by Pallava Kings. We are better known on their cultural skills through their treasres of magnificent architectural temples and cave temples in Mandagapattu, Mahendrawadi, Mamandur, Thalavanur, Trichirapalli, Vallam, Seeyamangalam, Thirukkazhukundram and including single stone chariots and mandapas at Mahabalipuram, Kanchi Kailasanathar temple, Kanchi Vaikunda Perumal temple, Muktheeswarar Temple and Madhangeeswarar Temple. Those kings not only saved their kingdom from enemies but also become the guardians of the endangered art, epic and heroic games.
And also the kings started learning centre named Kanchi Khatighai for teaching Vedas and Shashtras in the region of Thondai Mandalam, Kanchipuram. Through this they taught Art, Literature, endangered heroic games, good old defensive strategies and mind conscious arts. In the period of the king Narasimhavarman I (630 A.D. to 668 A.D.) who built single stone chariots of Mamallapuram, the Chinese traveller Hiuen Tsang (Suvan sengh) in his note mentioned that Kanchi Katighai was a great academic institution.
The Pallava prince Bodhi Dharma who belonged to the 5th Century A.D. is an example and he proved that through the mind controlled by meditation one can achieve True enlightenment. Taught the Chinese the control of breath inhaling called Pranayama and defensive strategies. Bodhi Dharman was called as a father of Zen Buddha division and Shaolin's martial arts. But during the period of Pallavas the Buddhism and Jainism fell and Saiva and Vaishnava flourished.
Like Kanchi Khatighai found in Kanchi, The institute called khatighai was known to have functioned in katigachalam area (i.e. today's Sholinghur).

Swami Dottacharyar :

Once two lived called Periyappan and Chitrappan in Sholinghur. They are fond of Tamil. They are not only Tamil scholars but also philanthropists.
A child was born to Periyappan 470 years before and was named as Shri Dottacharyar and felt happy. The child, Shri Dottacharyar who was brought up with Vaishnava devotion and love on Tamil considered as two eyes was over the years become expert in all shastras and staunch supporter of Vaishnavism.
Shri Dottacharyar sat on hard penance for 12 years to appease Lord Narayanan. In his dream Lord Sudarsana appeared in front of Shri Dottacharyar and shown him Lord Yoga Narasimha and disappeared. Shri. Dottacharyar was definite that the Lord Yoga Narasimha who appeared in his dream must be Thirukkadigai Yoga Narasimhar and took a vow to build a new temple at Thirukkadigai for Lord.
The king called Achyutha Devaraya (king Krishna Devaraya genealogy) who was kind and generous he patronised poets and religious scholars, as per the wishes of Shri Dottacharyar cleared the forest cover and created Chozhasimhapuram (thirukkadigai) with four pillared mandapa containing eight streets, built beautiful temple with sanctum sanctorum on the hill on1588 i.e. 430 years before as on 2018.
As saint poets Thirumangai Azhwar and Peyazhwar sung about this temple hundreds of years before, the king Achyutha Devaraya should have renovated the temple of Lord Yoga Narasimhar above the hill top with the serious efforts of Shri Dottacharyar Swamy. King even donated 64 villages.
With the help of the main disciples of Swamiji Thakkan Reddy and Mudaliyandan the renovation work was carried out and the temple pushkarni has been named after this Thakkan Reddy which stands today also. Pushkarni is also called as Brahma Theertham.
According to Archelogical Department the age old temple was renovated during the reign of Shri Veerapathra Ramadevarayar, Shri Venkatapathy Devarayar on 1527.
Temple rituals in Sholinghur are followed by Vaiganasa Agama Shastras. Vedas, Prabandhas and Andal Thirupavai were sung by Shri Dottacharyar descendants. During Brammothsavam and festivals and during procession of the Lord the due respects were given to Shri Dottacharyar descendants next only to Acharyas.
Sholinghur Sri Varadharaja Perumal Temple Sthala Purana :
Swami Dottacharyar who devoted himself to God is used to participate annually during the Brammothsavam held at Kanchipuram every year. On one such occasion because of illness Swamiji was unable to participate. His mind was very much wavering, he felt sorry that he could not attend. He was regularly participating on the 3rd day of Brahmothsavam every year. As before the 3rd day arrived. Swamy do not know what to do. He felt sad and sat on penance thinking about Lord Kanchi Varadarajar. Lord Varadarajar who realised the pain of devotee appeared in Garuda Vahana before Swami Dottacharyar who sat with eyes closed near the pushkarni. Swami Dottacharyar was very happy.
But in Kanchipuram Varadarajar temple there was anxiety because of the disappearance of Lord Varadarajar. Poojaris, Officers and devotees were in confusion. By the time Lord Kanchi Varadar who gave darshan to Swami Dottacharyar at Sholinghur he was disappeared in Kanchipuram. But after some time Lord returned again to Kanchipuram. How it happened? Where did the missing Lord go? The talk continued. Then only the realised the miracle and went after Shri Dottacharyar.
On this occasion today also in the Kanchi Varadaraja Perumal Temple every year during the Garuda Seva on the 3rd day of the Brahmothsavam held in the Tamil month Vaigasi reminds about the Lord Varadarajar who went to Sholinghur to give darshan, the temple door shut down for few minutes. On the entrance of the temple Lord Kanchi Varadarajar gives darshan to Shri Dottacharyar camphor lit and aarti shown. This occasion is known as Dottacharyar Seva. At the same time at Sholinghur Kanchi Varadar give darshan to devotees in Garuda Vahana. Shri Dottachar shrine is inside the temple.
During the Tamil month of Maasi 10 Avatar Utsavam for Dottacharyar and on Maasi Uthirada Nakshatra Thirumanjana for Dottacharyar and Perumal, in the evening procession taken out Seva, Theeratha distributed and Theppothsavam held in a grand manner.
Varadarajar Temple in Sholinghur is providing remedy for Rahu Ketu parikara, marriage, issues between couples and Naga Dosha. Moolava Murti Lord Varadarajar is seen with smiling face giving darshan sitting on Garuda. Lord who has given darshan to Shri Dottacharyar in a urgent manner kept one of the feet over Garuda's shoulder and another one on his hands. This is rare and special one. Lord is with Boodevi and Sridevi.
Those who come to pilgirimage to Yoga Narasimha Swami temple, first of all take bath at holy Brahma Theertha and seek the blessings of Lord Varadararaja Perumal after that proceed to Lord Narasimha Swamy Temple. Because Lord Varadarajar gave darshan to Swami Dottacharyar who dedicated his life to Lord Yoga Narasimha Swamy.
Hanuman stands near pushkarini tall and politely worshipping.
Big Temple :
Yoga controls the mind. The Maharish Patanjali who lived thousands of years before. When he introduced Yoga Mudras he mentioned Yoga is the art of controlling the mind.
After the eliminating of Hiranyakasibu as Ugramurthi, Lord Yoga Narasimha gave darshan to Prahalathan as Yoga Narasimhar here.
Yoga Narasimhar hill is 200 feet in length and 150 feet in breadth. 750 feet taller hill have exactly 1305 steps. There is 7 resting places (Mandapas) in the middle. Main tower having 5 stages with 7 kalasas.
Those people suffering with mental illness, childless copules stays here and daily climbs up and have darshan of Lord Narasimhar and stays here for some time doing specified poojas as per custom till Narasimhar appears on their dream. They are fulfilled miraculously.
Saptharishis Agasthyar, Athri, Bharathwajar, Gowthamar, Jamathakni, Vashistar and Visvamithrar sat on hard penance to seek the blessings of Lord Narasimhar. But Lord Narasimhar gave darshan to them for one ghatika only. Hence those who stay at this holy hill for a ghatika will attain motcha. For a single day there is 60 ghatikas. Then per hour it is 2.5 khatigas (Nazhigas).
Normally those who makes pilgrimage to the hill temple they should stay atleast one day that is good. Particularly at Sholinghur temple here the Lord Yoga Narasimhar who banishes evil forces from us.
Sage Vishwamithra received the title Brahmarishi from this holy temple.
Thirumangai Azhwar who was born in 8th centry. He sung pasurangal (stanzas) praising the Lord Mahavishnu in various temples. Kaaraar Kudanthai Kadigai Kadal mallai
Eraar pozhilsuzh Edaventhai Neermalai
Meaning of the Stanza : Thirumangai Azhwar is entirely different from the other Azhwars. He considered himself as a lady named Parakaala Nayagi and started loving God and shows herself as she become ill on not seeing the God and names the temples of Thiruvengadam, Thirukkovalur, Thiruooragam, Thirupper Nagar, Thiruvellarai, Thiruvegga, Thiruvaali, Thiruththangal, Thirunarayur, Thiruppuliyur, Thiruvarangam, Thirukkannamangai, Thiruvinnagaram, Thirukkannapuram, Thirucherai, Thiruvazhundur, Thirukkudanthai, Thirukkadigai, Thirukkadalmallai, Thiruidavendhai, Thiruneermalai, Thirumaaliruncholai, Thirumogur, Thiruvadhari (Badrikachramam), Thiruvadamadurai (Mathura) all 25 Divya Desams where she will visit one by one and in front of every temple she will curse the Lord by songs. She intimidates the Lord that she will write badly about Lord. This is purely because Thirumangai Azhwar's greed to see the God and thought that the God belongs to herself only. The collection of these songs named 'Siriya Thirumadal' (these stanzas numbering 77). But Thirumangai Azhwar never sung songs cursing the Lord. He seems to have attained the God by intimidation. Quite interesting.
By this way he would have sung
