The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, in the east of the Indian mainland, isolated in the Bay of Bengal. There are around 572 islands believed to be once extended upto Myanmar, Indonesia. The islands fully covered with evergreen forests varieties of flora and fauna. Around Out of 550 islands in Andaman Group of Islands 25 have not been inhabited and also in the Nicobar group Out of 22 islands 10 were inhabited. Andaman and Nicobar are separated by the Channel 150 kms spread across.
Historically most significant Cellular-Jail, Ross Island, Viper Island, Hopetown and Mount Harriet. Significant number of extinct birds are in Andaman. Andaman Wood Pigeon, Andaman Padauk and Dugong are the state birds.
How to reach Andaman :
By Air : In the capital of Port Blair Veer Savarkar Airport is located. Port Blair is well connected by air from Chennai, Kolkata, New Delhi and Bhubaneswar. Besides Air India, private operators like Jet Airways, Go Air, Spice Jet, Indigo and Air Vistara Airlines regularly operate flights.
By Ship : Regular passenger ships are available. Operates from Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Kolkata. Per month there are four trips made from Kolkata and Chennai to Port Blair. But there is one trip from Visakhapatnam every month. The time taken for voyage is 50 to 60 hours depending upon weather.
